How Kate Middleton Was a Victim to Social Media Pressure

The Influence and driving force of Kate Middleton within the social media consumerism.

Social Media accounts thrive on royal gossip, regardless if it is hate or love, we are in love with it and content makers market and exploit every single moment to create and divulge new content, whether it is true, or not.

The public withdrawal of the Princess of Wales captured significant attention; however, the media coverage was notably sparse, primarily echoing the statements released by the Palace. It remains ambiguous whether this decision was made to safeguard her privacy, or if there were protective measures in place during this time. It is understandable that an individual recovering from surgery would not be in the public eye, a reality that applies to anyone. Yet, it seems that this standard does not extend to the Princess of Wales.

As a devoted mother, Catherine strives to protect her young family.

Once her recovery period concluded, social media erupted with questions and concerns. Despite the Palace’s repeated assurances regarding her ongoing recovery, the chatter online persisted unabated. The public’s appetite for information appeared insatiable. In the days leading up to her return, wild speculations regarding the reasons for her surgery dominated discussions, with everyone seemingly convinced they had the answers. Catherine’s influence is well recognized; prior to her surgery, it was largely viewed positively. However, post-surgery, it has shifted to reveal a more troubling aspect of public perception, highlighting the harshness that can exist in public discourse.

As a devoted mother, Catherine strives to protect her young family, balancing her role as a public figure. Yet, there seems to be a prevailing belief among some that their modest tax contributions grant them access to every detail of her private life. Indeed, it is worth noting that when individuals express outrage about Catherine on social media for the sake of engagement, views, and likes, they should reflect on whether their contributions truly entitle them to more than just a glimpse of her public engagements, which are often aimed at raising awareness for important causes. It appears that many are more focused on the superficial aspects of her appearances rather than the meaningful work she represents.

As we enter January 2024, I have observed a surge of intense social media activity that has begun to disrupt established norms. When we visit a doctor for any reason, we expect a level of confidentiality in the doctor-patient relationship. This right is fundamental, even within the NHS, which is funded by our taxpayer contributions. It would be quite distressing if social media users united to demand disclosure of personal health matters simply because they feel entitled to know, given that it is taxpayer money at play.

We recall the unfortunate comments made about her body just days after giving birth.

We should all appreciate the importance of confidentiality, which seems to be overlooked in the case of the Princess of Wales, as if her rights should be compromised for a mere £1.29. It increasingly appears that she is denied the privacy that everyone deserves, with an expectation that every aspect of her life must be publicly shared.

One might wonder if her medical records should be made available, complete with detailed reports and perhaps even a live broadcast for those who wish to speculate on her health and appearance. We recall the unfortunate comments made about her body just days after giving birth, but that is a topic for another discussion.

There seems to be an unrealistic expectation that she must not be allowed to lead a normal life. The withholding of information, which is a fundamental aspect of privacy that we all cherish, has driven some online users into a frenzy. However, was any information truly withheld? No. Absolutely not.

Buckingham had issued a statement where it read:

Was that truly sufficient? No. Absolutely not. Why is that? It all boils down to content. It’s as straightforward as that. The Princess of Whales produces content not just for the average user, but also for various platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok—where individuals strive for their fleeting moments of fame, or rather, the pursuit of going viral, which can be likened to achieving wealth in a game of Monopoly.

The fashion! By all that is holy, the fashion!

This leads us to the realm of conspiracy theories. Are they valid? No. But what’s the reasoning? Because they attract views, perpetuating a cycle that generates a few cents. I have encountered theories suggesting that the Prince of Whales had a secret affair and was in hiding while his wife managed the divorce; that they had already separated and were postponing the news for the sake of their children, so they wouldn’t learn about it through social media; and even that the Princess of Whales was taken by extraterrestrials.

On a lighter note, I find that one amusing—imagine tasteful aliens selecting a beautiful individual, which only indicates their interest in her, and indeed, she is quite remarkable! There were even claims that the Princess of Whales had passed away! I mean, no funeral, nothing at all. After all, the royals typically do not hold public funerals, and it’s not as if she is the most recognized woman globally who would be missed. Then, a video from the Princess of Whales emerges to soothe the agitated, disenchanted netizens and other content creators who were in a frenzy. She clarifies her absence, and people eventually move on. No. Absolutely not. Why? Because, and I apologize for the repetition, it all comes back to content. Pennies. The desire to go viral.

  1. The video now features AI technology.

She is adorned with a wig.

This is her look-a-like..

Where is the wig?
Why isn’t she bald?

And my personal favorite observation:

This was a previously recorded segment showcasing her in the same shirt she wore years ago… Because we all have that one shirt we wear once and then discard. Naturally, Buckingham Palace has the Princess of Wales tirelessly producing videos for every conceivable scenario.

However, it turns out it wasn’t pre-recorded; it was a new shirt, and it has already sold out, because people are obsessed with her fashion! The fashion! By all that is holy, the fashion! Can we identify these garments? What is the purpose of this if not to enlighten those who fail to respect privacy? She was simply wearing clothes! Who cares about her actions or words? Our focus is on dissecting the fashion!

Then the Princess of Wales makes an appearance for Trooping the Colour.

Where is the wig?

Why isn’t she bald?

Is she being dishonest and merely seeking a break?

Why does she appear so ordinary?

Why isn’t she disheveled?

Her Amner Hall “mansion” is quite simple and not a palace.

Goodness, she is reusing a dress! We need to address that immediately! The dresses! If nothing else, let’s create content upon content about her clothing recycling habits. With all her wealth, how could she possibly do this? And how dare she flaunt her wealth by purchasing new outfits?

Her living room features a modest television!

Her Amner Hall “mansion” is quite simple and not a palace.

Do we admire her today? How many views will I garner by loving or hating her? Oh, negativity always attracts views! What shall I criticize today? Look, it’s not just me. It’s not entirely wrong to think this way! I know her toes! Has anyone criticized her toes recently? Oh, it looks like that will be my contribution!

I realize that after reading my thoughts, you might also feel the absurdity creeping in. It’s hard not to question if this is truly what it’s all about. It feels somewhat unsettling, as if a deranged individual has become overly engrossed in this narrative, and it spiraled out of control. We have witnessed this in a peculiar year filled with one-time events, and this is yet another instance.

We, who meticulously edit our photos for social media, are quick to condemn someone for poor Photoshop skills, as if we have never made similar errors ourselves.

She presents herself as an ordinary individual, demonstrating the typicality of her family life, yet we criticize her for it. If she were to act differently, the same criticism would likely follow. When will we reach a point where this behavior is deemed sufficient? When will we return to relying on common sense rather than calculating the potential earnings from a video or post aimed at disparaging someone else? I would like to conclude with a thought-provoking question for you, whether you have been involved in this spectacle or not. How would you react if you found yourself in her position? Or if it were your daughter? How fast would you run to make a few pennies out of your own family? Be kind to each other, you are not forced to it, it is a matter of leaving the world a bit better than what we found. For our children, for everyone’s children.
